Women’s Event to Draw Civic, Business Leaders

State  Sen. Florence Shapiro will be the headline speaker at the Women’s Leadership Conference planned for Friday, Feb. 15,  at UT Dallas.

Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Plano Mayor Pat Evans and Texas Instruments Vice President Shaunna F. Black are also scheduled to share their thoughts in discussions at the daylong event.

The event’s sponsors are UT Dallas Student Life and the Galerstein Women’s Center.
Planned discussion topics include:

• Ethics in leadership.
• The characteristics and competencies of leaders
• Leadership styles.
• The purpose of leadership.
• Leadership opportunities.

Ms. Shapiro’s district includes Richardson and Plano as well as Addison, Allen, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Farmers Branch, Frisco, Irving, Lewisville and McKinney.  She is known for “Ashley’s Laws,” a series of bills aimed at people who commit crimes against children.

The event is 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Galaxy Rooms.

The conference has already reached its registration cap of 325 attendees, but participants can still submit questions in advance at the conference Web site.
