Did you hear the one about the actuary?
Dull. Fashion-challenged. Make jokes if you must, but actuaries will get the last laugh. Their math-intensive career is one of the nation’s best, according to The Jobs Rated Almanac.
Jerry Tuttle, a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, will tell why at a free seminar Tuesday Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. in the University of Texas at Dallas Conference Center, Room CN 1.304.
The seminar is sponsored by The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the UT Dallas Actuarial Consulting Center.
Actuary science rolls up the expertise of mathematicians, statisticians, economists and financiers into one discipline that uses quantitative skills to solve insurance problems.
Mr. Tuttle is no stranger to all the actuary jokes. In fact, he collects them. And when he’s not working his day job as senior pricing actuary and vice president of Platinum Underwriters Reinsurance Co. in New York City, he posts them on a Web site.
The site is 179 jokes long and still growing. He has also written a humorous story about his profession.
