UT Dallas has received a $749,225 grant from the National Science Foundation to support The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program.
Named in honor of the co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and of Intel, the Robert Noyce program will provide five years of summer research stipends and internships and 45 $10,000 scholarships for UT Dallas science and mathematics majors who intend to become K-12 teachers.
The students will be part of the UTeach Dallas program, which provides early field experiences in the public schools and a set of focused courses designed specifically for pre-service science and mathematics teachers.
According to Principal Investigator Dr. Robert Hilborn, Head of UT Dallas’ Science/Mathematics Education Department, “This grant recognizes the leadership role that UTD is playing in the preparation of highly trained science and mathematics teachers, so desperately needed in Texas and the nation.”
The UTeach Dallas program is also supported by grants from the National Math & Science Initiative, the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, the Greater Texas Foundation, and Tellabs.
