Foundation Gift Helps UT Dallas Scholars Thrive

The Greater Texas Foundation has given $200,000 to support three key UT Dallas programs.

This gift will provide need-based scholarships to students in the Academic Bridge Program and to community college students transferring to UT Dallas through the Comet Connection program. The gift will also offer program support for UTeach Dallas.

The Academic Bridge Program at UT Dallas seeks to attract, support and retain students with high class rankings but who may not have completed the full university-track curriculum or met all the University’s entrance requirements.

Comet Connection is a program specifically for students who begin at a community college and want to complete their degree at UT Dallas.

UTeach Dallas was started in January 2008 as a new way to recruit and train math and science teachers. The program is a replication of the successful UT Austin program, UTeach, supported by the National Math and Science Initiative.

The foundation has supported UT Dallas with more than $350,000 in gifts since 2003.

Past Greater Texas Foundation awards have provided endowments for need-based, university-wide scholarships, and for specialized scholarships available to students studying nanotechnology or those enrolled in the Arts and Technology program (ATEC).

Statewide, since 2003, the Greater Texas Foundation has awarded more than $4 million in scholarship grants to colleges and universities. The foundation’s board believes that an educated workforce is essential for the dynamic Texas economy.

The foundation’s vision states: “Universal access to education will help Texans realize their dreams and bolster the common good of the state of Texas and the nation. We strive for a system of education without social or economic barriers to individuals’ pursuit of fulfillment.”
