Local food banks and pantries depend on donations to feed the hungry, and the holidays are an especially tough time.
For the second year, students from the UT Dallas chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) are competing in the Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger challenge, and they’re looking for help from the UT Dallas community.
SIFE is an international nonprofit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders.
The Let’s Can Hunger Challenge, sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, is a nationwide effort to confront the hunger problem on a number of fronts.
Last year, SIFE collected about 4,400 pounds of donations to place second in the regional competition.
“This year we are hoping to double the results, and that’s where we need help from our UT Dallas peers,” said Stephanie Culver, a senior business administration major and the project’s co-leader.
All donations will go to the North Texas Food Bank. Donations of canned goods or money will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 19.
