Described by their supervisors as “indispensible,” “proactive and positive,” and having “tremendous initiative,” five student workers at UT Dallas have been honored as part of National Student Employment Week.
The annual program recognizes student employees for their hard work in campus jobs.
Rekha Manohar
The Student Employee of the Year award was presented to Rekha Manohar, a senior marketing major in the School of Management who works in the University’s Alumni Relations office.
“Rekha is called on to do everything from working events to installing bricks on Legacy Lane, to assisting with special projects to answering the phone calls and emails from alumni and friends of the University,” Manohar’s nomination letter said. “She does all of this, and hundreds of other tasks, with complete reliability, and we know when she is tasked with a project, she will oversee all of the details and ensure its completion in a timely manner that is consistent with the high standards of the University.”
Other student nominees included Vishal Channe, who works in the McDermott Library; Jonathon Green, Bursar’s office; Ryan Malabanan, Department of Community Engagement; and Megan Richardson of the Galerstein Women’s Center.
Michael Doty, director of the Career Center, said students have the benefit of knowing the University from a different perspective, and that gives them an advantage when working in on-campus jobs.
“We’re always proud to honor UT Dallas students during National Student Employment Week,” Doty said. “We understand the value they provide throughout the University. From customer service to helping complete projects, our student workers have the benefit of knowing the inner workings of the University, and they use that to their advantage to help UT Dallas function at its best.”
As UT Dallas’ Student Employee of the Year, Manohar was nominated for the regional competition, the winner of which advances to the national competition.
The Student Employee of the Year award program is coordinated by the Career Center. Last week, representatives from the center honored the nominees and presented them with certificates and plaques at ceremonies held in their respective departments.
Nominations for the UT Dallas Student Employee of the Year were evaluated by staff members from the McDermott Library, the Department of Community Engagement, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, the Office of Student Success and Assessment, and Recreational Sports.
The committee considered such criteria as reliability, quality of work, initiative, attitude, professionalism and uniqueness of the nominated workers’ contributions.
