Ernie Lowery, one of the leading scorers on the UT Dallas men’s basketball team for each of the last two seasons, has been elected first-team All-District 6 in the College Division of the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men’s basketball team.

Lowery, a graduate student in the UT Dallas Accounting and Information Management program, will be one of just five student-athletes from District 6 to advance to the ballot for the prestigious national Academic All-America team.

He was the only American Southwest Conference student athlete selected for the All-District men’s basketball team.

Lowery, a fourth-year player, is the second-best scorer on the 17-2 Comets with a 11.8-point per game scoring average. He was the team’s top scorer in 2007-08, averaging 13.3 points per game.

A graduate of Spring (Texas) Klein Collins High School, Lowery earned his undergraduate degree in just three years with a cumulative grade point average of 3.82. He was an honor student in high school and is attending UT Dallas on an Academic Excellence Scholarship.

Lowery was a second-team selection for the Academic All-District team in 2008, and has earned three Academic All-Conference awards from the American Southwest Conference. He has been active with the UT Dallas Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and worked with various youth programs through his fraternity.

Lowery has already been selected to participate in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Professional Accounting program and is expecting to begin an internship with that company this summer.
