One of the world’s leading and  largest online private intelligence services, STRATFOR (Strategic Forecasting Inc.), has been added to the electronic databases available through McDermott Library at UT Dallas.

STRATFOR’s full line of service, including all features and departments, became available Monday to the UT Dallas student body, faculty and staff.

STRATFOR is a nonpartisan operation that specializes in gathering, analyzing and publishing geopolitical information from throughout the world.  Clients and subscribers include private individuals, colleges and universities, global corporations and divisions of U.S. and foreign governments.

The company was the subject of a cover story in Barron’s titled “The Shadow CIA” and often appears in national and international print and broadcast media, including TV networks CNN, CNBC and BBC and various weekly publications such as Time and  Newsweek.

“This is a highly regarded database and one of the best of its kind in the world,” said Dr. Larry D. Sall, dean of libraries at UT Dallas. “We are delighted to provide this kind of information to the campus through our online resources at McDermott Library.”

The primary intelligence products are Situational Awareness, Analyses and Forecasts. The main topics are economics/trade, energy, military, politics, and terrorism/security. Regions covered are China and East Asia, Europe, the former Soviet Union, Latin America, Middle East/North Africa, North America, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.

STRATFOR was founded in 1996 by Dr. George Friedman. The privately owned company is based in Austin. It maintains an office in Arlington, Virginia and has employees in geopolitically significant areas around the world.
