The campus will get its first training class in the Safe Zone program to foster respect for differences in sexual orientation.
The Safe Zone Project Ally class, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 25, is designed to educate UT Dallas students and faculty and staff members about inclusive language and issues affecting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning.
The class is sponsored by the Galerstein Women’s Center, Student Counseling Center and Multicultural Center in keeping with the University’s strategic initiative to enhance diversity and inclusion.
People who complete the training are asked to sign an ally agreement and receive a Safe Zone logo sticker. Displaying the logo is intended to support the University’s goal of creating a safe space for people of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, ages and abilities.
The Safe Zone logo was developed by Sumaiya Mehreen, a UTD student, who meant for the colors to represent UTD’s diversity.
The Project Ally training class is scheduled for 12:30 to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Galaxy Rooms. Students and faculty and staff members seeking to attend should e-mail organizers by Jan. 18.
