On Thursday, supporters of UT Dallas and other North Texas nonprofits can participate in a one-day online community giving event that will earn bonus funds for the causes they care most about.
Organized by the Communities Foundation of Texas, North Texas Giving Day is one of the largest of its kind in the nation. For each donation of $25 or more, the University and other organizations will receive bonus funds. In total, $2.4 million in these extra dollars will be given to participating nonprofits.
Last year, $130,000 was donated to UT Dallas through the event, hosted at northtexasgivingday.org.
Contributors can choose to give to numerous areas of the University, including the Academic Bridge Program, which recruits and supports first-generation college students; Alumni Relations; the Center for BrainHealth; the Center for Vital Longevity; and a number of schools.

“Sept. 17 is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the academics, research and other programs at UT Dallas that matter to you,” said Dr. Kyle Edgington, associate vice president for development. “North Texas Giving Day allows you to multiply your investment in the causes you care about most.”
During last year’s event, alumni, friends, faculty, staff and patients of the Callier Center for Communication Disorders raised more than $70,000 to provide treatment to 70 children with hearing loss from low-income families. Through Callier’s “Be a HEAR O” campaign, contributions to the center on North Texas Giving Day will help a child in need receive hearing aids and follow-up services.
Since 2009, more than $86 million has been raised for area nonprofits through North Texas Giving Day. Last year, 1,580 nonprofits benefited from the day, with contributions totaling more than $26.3 million.
