Callier Receives $286,000 in United Way Funds

The UT Dallas Callier Center for Communication Disorders recently received more than $286,000 from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to fund two priority needs programs for 2008-2009.

The two funded programs focus on treating children with unintelligible speech and with cochlear implants.
The center received more than $158,000 through a competitive grant process, and the remaining $127,000 came from the United Way’s partnership funds. The partnership funds are unrestricted dollars that may be used to support program or administrative expenses.
The United Way allocates partnership funds based on an agency’s financial reporting and program numbers. Program numbers are reported electronically on a semiannual basis, and financial reports are submitted on a quarterly basis.
The Callier Center became a United Way funded agency in 1966 and has continued to work with the United Way to provide speech-language-hearing services.
The Callier Center, with locations in Dallas and on the UT Dallas campus in Richardson, is one of the nation’s pre-eminent educational, research and treatment centers focusing on communication and communication disorders. The center is part of the university’s School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences.
