The University of Texas at Dallas’ 15th annual golf tournament, held recently at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, raised $29,065 for the UTD Scholarship Fund and involved more than 150 players. Since its inception, the popular event has helped to fund an endowment of more than $200,000 for student scholarships at UTD.
New this year, the scholarship fund was renamed in honor of three long-time supporters of the university — Patti Henry-Pinch and Betty and Gifford Johnson.
The renamed endowment will be divided into two separate scholarships — the Patti Henry-Pinch Undergraduate Scholarship and the Betty and Gifford Johnson Graduate Scholarship. The UTD Scholarship Committee will give each award, currently worth $5,500, annually. Both Henry-Pinch and the Johnsons are on the U.T. Dallas Development Board.
Chris Gage, UTD’s athletic director, coordinated this year’s daylong tournament, and the landscaping company Rock Materials was the title sponsor. Cost to participate was $100 per player, which included green fees, cart, prizes and lunch. Last year, the tournament raised nearly $25,000 for the scholarship fund.
