The University of Texas at Dallas’ 10th Annual Golf Tournament, held April 27 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, raised more than $15,000 for scholarships at the university, according to Robert L. Lovitt, UTD senior vice president for business affairs and one of the tournament’s organizers.
“This was the best year so far for the students,” Lovitt said, adding that last year’s tournament had raised about $14,000.
A team composed of Bill Lambert, Dan Murphy, Craig Oakley, John Schaefer, John Starly and Frank Sulzbach finished first in the overall competition.
The highlight of the tournament came when Jess Carpenter scored a hole in one on the 15th green. Other golfers who received special recognition were Frank Mata for the men’s longest drive, Carla Carpenter for the women’s longest drive and John Schaefer for proximity to the hole.
Lori Schrader of Barnes & Noble College Bookstores won two round-trip tickets donated by tournament sponsor American Airlines.
