Robotics Competition Scheduled
For March 2 at UTD Activity Center
Tournament Begins at 8:30 a.m. and Is Free and Open to Public
The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host the regional face-off of Botball, a robotics design tournament for high school and middle school students. Seven area schools are expected to participate in the daylong event.
The contest will be the culmination of more than six weeks of designing, building and programming a robot and will incorporate hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math. The only stipulation: the device cannot be remote-controlled; instead, it must be computer-programmed by the students, who are supervised by teachers from their respective schools.
Botball is sponsored by the Science and Mathematics Education Department in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at UTD and the KISS Institute for Practical Robotics.
Area schools participating will include: Berkner High School, Richardson; Clark Middle School, Frisco; DeLay Middle School, Lewisville; Edward H. Cary Middle School, Dallas; Highland Park High School, Dallas; O’Banion Middle School, Garland; and the School of Science and Engineering (Townview Magnet), Dallas.
Winners from the regional tournament will advance to the National Tournament and Conference in Norman, Okla., June 29 to July 2.
