UTD’s L. Douglas Kiel to Give Keynote Speech At Conference of International ‘Chaos’ Society

Dr. L. Douglas Kiel, professor of public affairs and administration in the School of Social Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), will deliver the keynote speech at the annual conference of the Society for Chaos Theory in Psychology and the Life Sciences in Denver on August 5.
The society is an international forum bringing together researchers, theoreticians and practitioners interested in complexity, nonlinear dynamics, self-organization, chaos theory and related subjects. Members, who hail from more than 30 countries, represent numerous disciplines, including psychology, philosophy, biology and management.
The topic of Kiel’s speech is “Out of Time and In Over Our Heads: How Efficiency Swamps Individuals and De-Complexifies Organizations.”
Kiel is a leading author on the application of the theories of complexity and chaos to management and organizations. His more than 50 published works are cited in more than 80 different academic journals ranging across the fields of public administration, business management, health care management and the law, among others. His current research examines the cognitive challenges faced by decision-makers and managers in a world of increasing complexity and uncertainty.
The society’s conference runs from August 4 to 6 on the campus of the University of Denver.
