UTD Professor Honored In Vancouver At Criminology Group’s Conference

RICHARDSON, Texas (Feb. 24, 2003) – Dr. Paul Tracy, a professor of criminology, sociology and political economy at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), received the president’s award for distinguished contributions to the field of criminology from the Western Society of Criminology (WSC) at the society’s 30th annual conference held Feb. 20-23 in Vancouver, Canada.
Tracy was presented the award Saturday night in honor of his expertise in longitudinal research, most specifically for his birth cohort study that followed the criminal behavior of approximately 27,000 people born in 1958 in Philadelphia, and for his mentoring of the current president of the WSC, Dr. Elizabeth Deschenes, while she was a doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania, and for advising her during the 20 years since then.
Tracy specializes in the study of criminal careers, juvenile delinquency and policy issues in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology with specialties in criminology and research methods from the Center for Studies in Criminology and Criminal Law at the University of Pennsylvania.
The author of five books and numerous scholarly articles, Tracy is coordinator of the Crime and Justice Studies Program in the School of Social Sciences at UTD.
