U. T. Dallas’ Da Hsuan Feng Wins Award From Asian American Citizen Council

RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 27, 2004) – Dr Da Hsuan Feng, vice president for research and graduate education at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Saturday night was presented the Visionary Award by the Dallas-Fort Worth Asian American Citizen Council.

The award, which was given for the first time this year, was in recognition of Feng’s efforts to develop collaborative research efforts as engines for the economic and intellectual development of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. In selecting Feng for the honor, the awards committee called his efforts “relentless and global.”

Feng received the award at the council’s annual banquet at the Intercontinental Hotel in Addison.

“I am honored to be recognized by such a powerful community organization,” said Feng. “This is a reminder of how research universities, such as The University of Texas at Dallas, need to work hard to become intellectual and economic engines and, in the process, benefit an entire region.  For certain, this award will inspire me to increase my commitment to that goal.”

Feng, a prominent theoretical physicist with notable achievements in the areas of international affairs, government service, business entrepreneurship and public education, was appointed UTD’s first vice president for research and graduate education in November 2000. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Drew University and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in theoretical nuclear physics from the University of Minnesota.

Since its inception in April 2001, the Dallas-Fort Worth Asian American Citizen Council has assisted the growing local Asian American community to enter into the mainstream through voter education and registration and other activities in the DFW area.
