Jonsson School Dean Bob Helms To Speak At TEDC’s Annual Conference Sept. 30

Dr. Bob Helms, dean of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), will deliver the keynote address at the annual conference of the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) Thursday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m., at the Hilton Lincoln Centre in Dallas.
Helms, who joined UTD last year and was one of the key players behind “Project Emmitt,” the largest economic development agreement announced in the U. S. in 2003, will speak on “University-Industry Collaboration.” Under the innovative Project Emmitt, Texas Instruments agreed to build a $3-billion chip fabrication plant in Richardson near the UTD campus if the state and the private sector would ensure that UTD received an infusion of up to $300 million to help the university attain “Tier One” status.
The three-day conference, the theme of which is “Capitalizing on an Improving Economy,” will run from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. It is open to the public, and the charge to attend is $350 to TEDC members and $400 to non-members.
