Guitar Professor Receives Fulbright Fellowship

The director of the UT Dallas guitar studies program has received a Fulbright award to teach this fall in Mexico.
Dr. Enric Madriguera will be based in the Mexican state of Hidalgo under the Fulbright-Garcia Robles Award for Scholars program. He is professor of aesthetic studies in music in the School of Arts and Humanities.
“I’m honored to be a recipient of this grant, and I expect it to open up many opportunities for students and other faculty,” said Madriguera.
The award offers American scholars and professionals opportunities to study and teach in Mexico. The program is jointly administered by and the Fulbright Commission in Mexico City and Washington, D.C.
“We are pleased that the Fulbright Scholarship Award program has chosen Madriguera to be a fellow this fall in Mexico and the state of Hidalgo,” said Kathryn Evans, associate dean for the Arts in the School of Arts and Humanities. “He has already fostered collaborative arrangements with other states in Mexico, and in Central America, South America and Spain.
“His presence there will continue to foster the important relationships that UT Dallas has with Mexico in music, the arts and culture. We anticipate that many significant collaborations will come from his time there and he will continue to expand our programs and exchanges with Mexico.”
Madriguera is the artistic director for the UT Dallas Guitar Series and the Texas Guitar Competition and Festival. He travels annually to festivals and performances in the Americas and Europe, and his work is featured on several CD recordings. He is also a board member and the Culture Officer for the Texas Chapter of Partners of the Americas.
The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The program is sponsored by the the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
