UTD to Co-Sponsor Symposium on Technology, Bioscience

RICHARDSON, Texas (Jan. 7, 2002) – The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and Collin County will co-sponsor a symposium on the UTD campus Friday, Jan. 18, to address the county’s plans to become more prominent in the areas of technology and bioscience.

The symposium is free and open to the public and will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 2.104 of the Founder’s North building. The gathering, which comes in the wake of Gov. Rick Perry’s recent announcement that Texas was creating a Council on Science and Biotechnology, will examine Collin County’s goals in those areas, especially with regard to nanoscience, bioscience and nano-bioscience.

Officials from the county, UTD and the City of Richardson collaborated on the development of the plan over the past six months. County Commissioners Jerry Hoagland and Phyllis Cole will provide an overview at the symposium of both the county’s and state’s plans and discuss how those plans will work together toward common goals.
