UTD President Dr. Franklyn Jenifer To Speak At Excellence in Education Banquet June 12

Dr. Franklyn Jenifer, president of The
University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), will give the keynote address Thursday, June 12, at the 2003
State Farm Excellence in Education Banquet sponsored by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber
of Commerce.

The banquet will be held at the Adam’s Mark
Hotel, 400 N. Olive Street, in downtown Dallas and will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed
by dinner and the program at 7 p.m.

UTD’s enrollment and reputation both have has
grown tremendously since Jenifer assumed the university’s presidency in 1994. Before coming to
Texas, Jenifer served as president of Howard University in Washington, D.C., and before that
as chancellor of the Massachusetts Board of Regents of Higher Education, where he was responsible
for 27 public colleges and universities with a total enrollment of approximately 180,000 students.
He previously had served as vice chancellor of the New Jersey Department of Higher Education,
a system encompassing 32 public higher education institutions with an enrollment of nearly a
quarter-million students. Jenifer, who received his Ph.D. in plant virology from the University
of Maryland in 1970, has published numerous articles on a wide variety of subjects.

Twenty Asian American scholars and eight educators
will be recognized at the banquet for their achievements.
