Launched in 2009, the goal of Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One & Beyond was to raise $200 million by Dec. 31, 2014. On Wednesday, the University will celebrate raising $263 million so far.
On Wednesday, the campus will mark the successful finale of the University’s first comprehensive campaign and the first UT Dallas Founders Day.
Supporters of Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One & Beyond will join University leadership at the fourth annual Celebration of Support reception from 6 to 8 p.m. under the Trellis. The invitation-only event marks the final stage of the five-year campaign.
To date, the fundraising effort has amassed more than $263 million. While the campaign continues through Dec. 31, this event will celebrate the many individuals and volunteers who helped the University surpass the $200 million goal nine months early.
“This campaign has truly energized our entire University community and is ushering in an era of transformation and growth built upon our solid foundation,” said Dwight Clasby, interim director of development and alumni relations. “Without the many contributions from our valued supporters, these exciting developments wouldn’t be possible.”
Many of these contributors are part of an exclusive group of supporters — UT Dallas’ giving societies. Individuals and corporations who contribute to the University at certain levels are recognized as members of one or more of the five giving societies.
Music, Food Trucks, Pyrotechnics, Fun for All
In celebration of the campaign finale, students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to join the outdoor festivities from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a DJ, dancing and giveaways at the roundabout area on the south end of the mall.
Four food trucks — Trailer Cakes, Ssahm Gourmet Korean Tacos, Rockn’ Rick’s and Epic Cones — will offer free dining options while supplies last. Students with Comet Cards and nonstudents can get tickets for two food truck purchases at a ticket and information table to the left of the stage.
At 8 p.m., all guests will be treated to a pyrotechnics and laser light show.
“UT Dallas has changed so much since its founding, and I am very excited to be at this school on the cusp of even greater developments,” said Nancy Fairbank, Student Government vice president. “The Celebration of Support events will join students, faculty and alumni in recognizing the continued success and growth of our school. This is certainly one of the most amazing times to be at UT Dallas.”
Earlier in the day, the University will honor the legacy of the institution’s founders — Cecil H. Green, J. Erik Jonsson and Eugene McDermott — at the inaugural Founders Day celebration. Fifty years ago, the first campus facility, the Founders Building, was dedicated at what was then the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest. Oct. 29 will now be known as Founders Day at UT Dallas.
