U. T. Dallas Professor to Discuss ‘Friendship and Romance in Adolescence’

On the heels of Valentines Day, University of Texas at Dallas Professor Duane Buhrmester will present a free lecture titled “Friendship and Romance in Adolescence” at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the McDermott Library Auditorium (MC 2.410) on the UTD campus.
Dr. Duane Buhrmester, a psychology professor
and associate dean of undergraduate education
in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences,
studies close friendships and family relationships.
Dr. Buhrmester is a professor of psychology and associate dean of undergraduate education in UTD’s School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. The event is a part of the McDermott Library Lecture Series, which currently is featuring faculty from that school.
Buhrmester’s current work focuses on a longitudinal study that tracks experiences in close friendships and family relationships as children progress from the 6th to 12th grade. The aims of the study are to identify the qualities of family and peer relationships that shape the development of the social skills and to examine the changing impact that parents and peers have on adjustment.
