UT Dallas graduation celebration

Graduates from the Naveen Jindal School of Management celebrate during Memories on the Mall last spring. The Jindal School will hold three commencement ceremonies on May 13 and has 1,476 candidates for graduation — the most for the University this spring.

Family, friends and supporters will celebrate the achievements of more than 3,700 graduates from The University of Texas at Dallas during eight commencement ceremonies May 12-14 in the Activity Center.

Among those expected to receive degrees are 1,758 undergraduates and 1,870 master’s students. Eighty-one doctoral candidates have been certified. The combined total is nearly a 3 percent increase over the number of spring candidates for graduation last year.

More than 3,300 students are expected to participate in the commencement ceremonies.

After next week’s ceremonies, the University will have conferred more than 106,000 degrees during its 47-year history.

The largest of UT Dallas’ eight schools, the Naveen Jindal School of Management, has the most candidates for graduation — 1,476  for its three ceremonies. The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science has 890 candidates for its two ceremonies.

Next are the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences with 441; the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with 365; the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences with 195; the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication with 157; the School of Arts and Humanities with 98; and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies with 87.

In keeping with UT Dallas tradition, eight students were chosen as commencement speakers for the ceremonies. UT Dallas President ad interim Hobson Wildenthal also will address the graduates.

Immediately after each commencement ceremony, graduates and well-wishers are invited to Memories on the Mall, a tradition honoring the University’s newest alumni. The event will offer light refreshments, photo opportunities and giveaways.

Those unable to attend the ceremonies can watch a live video stream of the proceedings online.
