Vehicles loaded with parents and students began rolling down Rutford Avenue toward the new Student Residence Hall shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
About 400 incoming freshmen began the process of moving in to their new home away from home as the new living-learning facility entered its first official day of operation. The grounds teemed with dozens of peer advisers and student volunteers, who helped incoming residents haul everything from area rugs to mini-fridges and ironing boards. Representatives from groups across campus also lined the lobby with refreshments, cool water and welcome bags for the incoming students. Freshmen not living in the hall began moving into their campus apartments Wednesday, as well, with the help of their peer advisers. |

The 144,000-square-foot hall accommodates 400 full-time residents. Students live in three-bedroom, single-bath suites. | ||

The first student to move in was Lauren Young (right). Her parents were there to lend a hand and help unpack her belongings.
