The student-run UTD Mercury newspaper has recently won the Associated Collegiate Press Best of Show Award for a Special Edition.
The newspaper received the award at the recent National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C.
The award honored the creative efforts behind the Summer Orientation Issue, which was a “3-D orientation issue” complete with 3-D glasses affixed to the front of the paper.
The issue gave freshmen and new students a comprehensive introduction to campus with a full-color center spread of 3-D photographs.
UTD Mercury staffers produced the 40-page special issue over the summer during their regular summer publication schedule.
“It was a real achievement,” said Phyllis Blanck, associate dean of students at UT Dallas. “It was a very creative issue.”
The section bested entries from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, second place; and Southern Illinois University, third place.
