Halls Having an Official Housewarming Party

By: Office of Media Relations | Sept. 8, 2009

Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to celebrate the opening of UT Dallas’ very first freshman living learning residence hall and new dining facility at a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The event will begin on the front steps of the new University Village Residence Hall on Rutford Avenue, just west of the Arts and Technology (ATEC) Building. A ribbon cutting and reception will follow at the new Dining Hall.

Special guests expected at the event include Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel.

The new residence hall offers living learning environments, which group students with similar interests and majors. The 144,000-square-foot hall is housing its first group of 384 full-time freshmen residents and 16 peer advisers. Students live in three-bedroom, single-bath suites.

The hall features large, open areas, plenty of communal space, and open-air study rooms on each floor.  Residents enjoy three-bedroom, single-bath suites, and there are one-bedroom, one-bath units for peer advisers, who mentor the residents.

Students living in the new residence hall are already enjoying the fruits of high-quality dining offered at the new, 28,000-square-foot Dining Hall.  The modern facility offers seven different styles of meals, from vegetarian and vegan options, to brick oven pizza prepared fresh by chefs, to an ice cream and yogurt bar.  Other dining options include traditional Tex-Mex cuisine, make-your-own waffles, fresh soups, and piping hot bread.  Open seven days a week, the facility offers a variety of meal plans to students, faculty and staff.

Directions to the dedication are available at utdallas.edu/maps. Enter the campus at Synergy Park Boulevard and Rutford Avenue and follow the signs to parking. Click on “Pardon Our Progress” for possible construction detours.
