State Sen. Florence Shapiro confers with UT Dallas President David Daniel at a meeting of the Study Commission on Region C Water Supply.

State policymakers gathered Feb. 13 at UT Dallas for an organizational meeting of the Study Commission on Region C Water Supply.

The commission is charged with helping solve the problem of meeting the region’s mounting water supply problem.

The region includes the cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and includes about 25 percent of the state’s population.

Rapid population increase in the region is expected to outstrip growth in water supply by 2050, posing a threat to industry and the economy.

The commission, formed through legislation passed during the Legislature’s 80th session, includes State Sen. Florence Shapiro and State Reps. Jodie Laubenberg and Stephen Frost.
