The Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas garnered top rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 ranking of graduate schools, released Tuesday.
The school’s Full-Time MBA program ranks 33rd in the nation, improving four spots from last year. It is tied with Brigham Young University, Rice University and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. UT Dallas has the highest-ranked North Texas program.
UT Dallas’ Professional MBA program came in at No. 29, tying with the University of California, Davis, and Case Western Reserve University. The professional program is third in Texas, trailing the University of Texas at Austin and Rice University.
The Jindal School’s MBA specialty of Information Systems tied for 16th.
“I’m very proud of our No. 33 standing and our strong position alongside other high-caliber universities that deliver the best in MBA education,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul, Jindal School dean and Caruth Chair of Management. “All our hard work is paying off, resulting in programs focused on the career success of our students.”
“All our hard work is paying off, resulting in programs focused on the career success of our students.”
“I’m particularly pleased that our Full-Time MBA program, which is less than 20 years old, has continued to climb in the rankings. In the last eight years, we have successfully moved from 54 to 33, demonstrating our continued success in recruiting top students who appeal to great employers.”
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science was also listed in the rankings, earning 76th place among graduate engineering programs. Also at 76th were Oregon State University, Stevens Institute of Technology, the University of Houston and Washington State University.
Several other Jonsson School programs rose in rank. Electrical/electronic/communications engineering gained 12 spots to reach 52nd. Computer engineering rose to 62nd.
Systems engineering ranked 69th in its category, and mechanical engineering ranked 88th. Computer science remains at 70th and materials science at 59th.
Two other UT Dallas graduate programs continue to be ranked among the nation’s top 20, as previously surveyed by U.S. News in 2012. The University’s audiology program tied at third, and its communication disorders master’s program tied at 11th.
The criminology program remained at 27th, and the political science program stayed at 76th. U.S. News did not offer new rankings for these categories this year.
Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The rankings in these areas are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students. The data come from statistical surveys sent to administrators at nearly 1,900 graduate programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 13,700 academics and professionals in the disciplines.
