Facilities Management, Police Moving Offices
By: Office of Media Relations | June 18, 2009
Facilities Management, the department that helps implement and supervise growth of the UT Dallas campus, is moving into a new building. And the University Police Department is in hot pursuit.
A new Facilities Management building, located on the campus’ northeast quadrant across from Callier Richardson, will house the University’s engineering, construction and building operations and maintenance managers and staff. Representatives from the UT System’s Office of Facilities Planning and Construction also will office there.
“It is a once in a career opportunity to participate in the construction of a new facilities management building,” said Facilities Management Director Bill Elvey, P.E. “We are excited that this opportunity has been made possible by the University administration.”
Phone numbers and email addresses associated with various FM personnel and services will remain the same.
In a chain reaction, police will move into Facilities Management’s former space, and Environmental Health and Safety will take over the old police headquarters.
The decades-old building is being renovated to accommodate the police. Improvements include an expanded evidence room, more storage space, ADA-compliant bathrooms and an access ramp at the building’s entrance.
“We’re extremely excited about the new facility and all it will have to offer our community. It will certainly enable our agency to run more efficiently from almost every facet,” said UT Dallas police Lt. Chris Dickson.
The move for Environmental Health and Safety, from the Waterview Science and Technology Center mid-July, will follow the move by the police.
Facilities Management’s move is scheduled the week of June 15-19. The UT Dallas Police Department, which is made up of 20 commissioned officers, six public safety officers, and 12 support staff members, will move the week of June 29th.
Facilities Management is responsible for engineering, construction and planning; utilities, and all building and grounds maintenance and operations for the university.
