Date Rape Survivor Bringing Story to UT Dallas

At age 18, Katie Koestner spoke out nationally and publicly after being raped on a date with a fellow student at the College of William and Mary, breaking a long national silence on one of the most under-reported crimes in America.

She brings her story to UT Dallas on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The event, part of the Diversity Leadership Speaker Series, is Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in the UT Dallas Conference Center Auditorium.
Ms. Koestner’s assault helped bring the contemporary debate over date rape into the national spotlight.
She appeared on the cover of Time magazine’s date rape issue, giving a name and a face to a crime that is recognized as a critical problem currently facing America’s students.
Ms. Koestner has appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, CNN, MTV, Larry King Live, CNBC Talk Live, MSNBC, Later Today, Entertainment Tonight, Italian TV and dozens of other news programs to create public awareness of date rape.
Articles about Ms. Koestner have been published in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Tribune, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Journal of Higher Education, and hundreds of other publications.”
The event is being sponsored by Residential Life, Student Union & Activities Advisory Board, the Multicultural Center, the Women’s Center, UT Dallas Police Department, the Gender Studies Program, the Student Health Center and the Counseling Center. Food will be provided.
