Dallas Police Arrest Individual Accused of Threatening Campus

An individual accused of threatening violence against the UT Dallas campus was arrested by Dallas police Tuesday afternoon in Dallas near Hillcrest and Arapaho.  Dallas, Richardson and UT Dallas police began actively monitoring campus entrances at about 11 a.m. Tuesday after Dallas police conveyed information about a threat made against the campus by an individual involved in an off-campus domestic altercation.

Two campus facilities, the Callier Center Richardson and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Laboratory, were locked down briefly due to their proximity to main roadways into campus.  Both returned to normal operations within 30 minutes. Police remained in place at Callier Richardson, and active monitoring of the perimeter continued until Dallas police confirmed that they had contained the individual in the location where the arrest took place.  The individual never entered the campus.

The nature of the threat—whether against a particular UT Dallas person or against the university community as a whole—was unclear.  However, police provided very detailed information—which included the individual’s personal description, vehicle make, model and license plate number and known location off campus.  With this information in hand, administrators believed the best course to be a very visible show of police presence at the campus perimeter and continued close cooperation with Dallas and Richardson authorities.
