The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), home to the top-ranked collegiate chess team in the United States, will host chess training sessions for area youngsters this fall for the second consecutive year.
Offered by the Chess Club at UTD, the two sessions are open to students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area ages six and older. Training will cover such areas as opening theory, tactics, end-game strategy, standard algebraic notion and tournament preparation. Instruction also will be provided to players with little or no prior chess experience who are interested in learning how to play.
The sessions will be held on Saturdays – Nov. 16 and Dec. 7. Classes will begin at 1 pm and conclude at 5 pm. Pre-registration is not required; attendees can enroll prior to each session. Registration will begin at 12:30. All classes will be held on the UTD campus in Cecil H. Green Hall, Room 2.508. Tuition is $35 per student per session. Participants do not have to attend both sessions, although a $5 discount will be granted anyone who attended a previous UTD Chess Training session. A break will be held at 3 p.m., and students are encouraged to bring a snack.
