The University of Texas at Dallas, home to the top-ranked collegiate chess team in the United States and recently named Chess College of the Year by the U.S. Chess Federation, will host chess training sessions for local children during the fall semester.
Offered by the Chess Club at UTD, the four sessions are open to students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area ages six and older. Training will cover such areas as opening theory, tactics, end-game strategy, standard algebraic notion and tournament preparation. Instruction also will be provided to players with little or no prior chess experience who are interested in learning to play.
The sessions all will be held on Saturdays – Sept. 22, Oct. 13, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8. Classes will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is not required, and attendees can enroll prior to each session. All classes will be held on the UTD campus in Cecil H. Green Hall, Room 2.508.
Tuition is $50 per student per session. Participants do not have to attend all of the sessions, although a $5 discount will be granted to returning players. A noon break is scheduled during each class. Students should bring a lunch; drinks will be provided.
