Basketball Teams Have a Double Shot at Glory

In a rare double dip, both UT Dallas basketball teams will be playing in American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament games this weekend after having both won their divisions for the time in history.

In addition, both teams enter the championships in top-seeded positions after finishing their regular seasons with 21-4 overall records.

Both teams will play their quarterfinal games on Friday. The winner of each tournament is considered the ASC champion and earns the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III national playoffs.

The Comet men earned the right to host the ASC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament in the UT Dallas Activity Center after clinching their first-ever outright American Southwest Conference East Division title victory in a 66-59 road win over LeTourneau University on Saturday afternoon.

On the same day, the UT Dallas women won their first American Southwest Conference East Division title with with a 57-44 road win over LeTourneau.

The women finished their regular season with a 21-4 overall record, the best season in the team’s history.  The team’s previous best year was last year, when they were 12-8 in conference play and 16-10 overall.

The UT Dallas women will travel to Abilene on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 27-March 1, for the annual ASC Women’s Championship Tournament, to be hosted by McMurry University.
