Two top UT Dallas basketball players have made the CoSIDA/ESPN Magazine Academic All-District team, the precursor to the national Academic All-America award.
Senior Ericka Baker and junior Ernie Lowery were selected from fields of more than 30 candidates in the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) 6th District, which includes NCAA Division II/III and NAIA universities in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Only five players make each first, second and third team in each district by the vote of CoSIDA members in the district. To be nominated for the honor, student-athletes must have cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.2 and contribute significantly to their teams.
Baker was selected as one of the five first-team All-District honorees out of District 6 and will advance to the ballot for the prestigious Academic All-America team. Lowery was selected as a District 6 College Division second-team member, finishing in the top 10 in the district.
Baker, a senior from Copperas Cove, Texas, is a team captain and among the statistical leaders for the 11-9 UT Dallas women’s basketball team, averaging 12.6 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game. A psychology major in her third year with the teaem, she has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.70.
Lowery, a junior from Houston, is among the top players on the 14-6 UT Dallas men’s basketball team. He leads the team with a 13.9-point per game average and 48 assists through the first 20 games. Lowery is an accounting and information management major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.78.
