Billionaire Dallas businessman and former presidential candidate H. Ross Perot will deliver the opening address at the Sixth Emerging Information Technology Conference on Thursday, Aug. 10, on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).

Perot will give a talk on “Global Technology and Commercialization in the 21st Century” at 9 a.m. in the UTD Conference Center. The speech is free and open to UTD faculty members and staff; others must register for the conference in order to attend.

The conference is organized by prominent Chinese-Americans and others from the Asia-Pacific region involved in high-technology fields.  Its aim is to disseminate expert views on the directions of technology development in coming decades.

The three-day conference has two venues – events on Aug. 10 – 11 will be held at UTD; on Aug. 12, the meeting will move to the Westin Galleria Dallas Hotel.  This year’s event marks the first time the conference has been held in the Central United States.  The five previous meetings were conducted on the East Coast and in Taiwan.

The event will feature a number of speakers from UTD, including Dr. Da Hsuan Feng, vice president for research and economic development, Nobel laureate Dr. Alan MacDiarmid and Dr. Ray Baughman, director of the UTD NanoTech Institute.
