RICHARDSON, Texas (April 4, 2003) – The UTD Chamber Singers, the UTD Community Chorale and an instrumental ensemble will join to perform an all-Mozart concert Sunday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas.
Soprano Kathryn Evans, who directs the UTD Chamber Singers, will be among the featured performers. Others will be alto Sherna Armstrong, tenor Kim Childs and bass Chung Han Yi. Ian Hin-Kei Yeung directs the UTD Community Chorale
Among the selections to be performed are Divertimenti K.136, 137, & 138; Ave Verum Corpus K.618; Scande Coeli Limina K.34; Tantum Ergo K.142 & K.197, and Missa Brevis K. 220
Admission is free, but due to limited seating it is recommended that patrons arrive early. The lobby will open at 6:30 p.m.
Evans joined the faculty of the UTD in August 1994 where she is currently the Associate Dean for the Arts in the School of Arts and Humanities. She teaches vocal and choral music and is an accomplished recitalist and chamber musician who performs in Europe as well as in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Evans recently completed tours of music for voice and guitar with fellow faculty member Enric Madriguera in Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Mexico. Before coming to U. T. Dallas, she was director of the Bach Society Chamber Orchestra and Chorus in La Jolla, Calif., musical director of the Orpheus Ensemble. Evans holds Master of Arts degrees in both music and mathematics from the University of California, San Diego.
Yeung holds a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of North Texas and an undergraduate degree in music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Yeung is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in choral conducting at the University of North Texas, where he holds a teaching fellowship to direct the Men’s Chorus while concurrently pursuing a Master’s of Church Music in music ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His experience includes conducting the UNT Symphony Orchestra at the UNT Annual Concerto Competition. In addition, Yeung has served as the accompanist for several groups including Canticum Novum, UNT Concert Choir and the Denton Bach Society as well as performing vocally in many groups and competitions throughout Asia.
