RICHARDSON, Texas (July 19, 2004) — The School of Arts & Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) today announced its 2004–05 season of classical concerts.

All classical concert performances will be for one night only. Friday and Saturday concerts will begin at 8 p.m., while Sunday and Monday concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Basically Baroque , an evening of Baroque favorites including O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit and three movements from French Suite #4 by J.S. Bach and Domine, dominus noster by André Campra, will be held Sep. 10 in the Jonsson Performance Hall. Performers will include Kathryn Evans, director and soprano; Cecile Lagarenne, oboe and oboe d’amore; Helen Blackburn, flute; Kristin Van Cleve, violin; Jim Higgins, cello; and Mary Medrick, harpsichord. Tickets are $10.

The Clavier Trio—Arkady Fomin, violin, Peter Steffens, cello, and David Korevaar, piano—will perform Piano Trio in B flat by Austrian composer Franz Schubert in Schubert & Café Music on Nov. 14 in the UTD Conference Center. The second half of the program will feature Café Music by American Paul Schoenfield, who weaves sounds from the streets of New York, ranging from the spirituals in Harlem to Klezmer fiddling from the lower East Side. Tickets are $15.

On Nov. 22, UTD will preview The New Conservatory of Dallas’ 18th Annual Symphony of Toys™ in the University Theatre. Admission to the concert will be a new, unwrapped toy that will be distributed in cooperation with WFAA-Channel 8 Santa’s Helpers toy drive that benefits underprivileged children in the area.

Presented in association with Dallas/Riga Sister City Committee, Latvian flutist Ilze Urbane will appear in the UTD Conference Center on March 25. Ms.Urbanehas been characterized by James Galway as “an immensely talented young flutist, outstanding in her generation. She has a complete control of the instrument, a beautiful singing tone and a wonderful natural feeling for music.” Ms. Urbane will appear with pianist David Korevaar. Tickets are $15.

Then on April 3, members of the Clavier Trio will preview their Carnegie Hall concert, Mostly Duos/Rejoice, in the UTD Conference Center. The program will includes Cello Preludes by the multi-talented composer, pianist and poet Lera Auerbach, Duo for Violin and Cello in the style of Ravel by Bohuslav Martinu, and Rejoice, Sonata for violin and cello by one of today’s leading composers, Sofia Gubaidulina. Tickets are $15.

The classical season will conclude when Musica Nova and Voices of Change combine forces on May 1 to present a concert in the University Theatre, which will include the world premiere of Robert X. Rodríguez’s “The Dot and the Line”, based on the book by Norman Juster and partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets are $20.
