The entertainment included spoken-word artists and bands from around the country. Hosts were GNO; Rock Baby of HBO’s Def Poetry; and DJ Whiz T, later a DJ for the Dallas Mavericks.
The time was the years between 2004 and 2006, and the place was the Pub at the UT Dallas Student Union. The recurring event was the Underground Poetry Circus.
Thursday at 10, for one night only, the Circus will return.
On the bill are the original host Rock Baby and featured poets Joaquin Z and Natasha Carrisoza.
The Circus will also feature renowned Neo-Soul enthusiast and radio personality DJ/turntablist DJ Frances Jaye and an open-mic event.
As before, the UPC will offer free food, free Starbucks coffee, and free admission. (“So that the only thing patrons have to worry about is freeing their minds,” organizers say.)
The Circus has been featured in the Dallas Observer, chosen as a Dallas Morning News Hot Pick on several occasions, and featured in more than 14 UTD Mercury articles.
