RICHARDSON, Texas (April 20, 2004) — The Spring Arts Festival, a free extravaganza that features the work of more than 700 University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) students from 30-plus courses in music, visual arts, theatre and dance, will be held on the UTD campus April 23 and 24.

The festival will begin at 6 p.m. that Friday with jazz ensemble performances in the University Theatre followed by dance ensembles and spoken word performances at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.

At 6:30 p.m., there will be an art exhibition and reception in the Visual Arts Building. Students’ artwork will be exhibited in a juried exhibition featuring the best work from students enrolled in visual arts courses during the current academic year. The juror for the show will be Suzanne Weaver, associate curator of contemporary art at the Dallas Museum of Art. At 7:30 p.m., the awards ceremony will begin. It will include the presentation of more than $1,000 in awards provided by Dr. Dennis M. Kratz, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, and community businesses such as Asel Art Supply, Film Depot, Flash-Back and Expert Imaging.

On Saturday, April. 24, the Jonsson Performance Hall will host the following concerts: guitar ensemble at 1 p.m., string ensemble and wind ensemble at 2 p.m, beginning voice at 3 p.m., intermediate voice at 3:30 p.m. and piano at 4 p.m. In addition, the UTD Dance Ensembles will perform in the University Theatre at 2 p.m., and acting performances will begin at 3 p.m.
