The Spring Arts Festival, a free extravaganza that features the work of more than 700 University of Texas at Dallas students from 35 courses in music, visual arts, theatre and dance, will be held on the UTD campus May 3 to 5.
The festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, with an art exhibition and reception in the Visual Arts Building and a series of recitals in Jonsson Performance Hall. The art classes that will exhibit their works include Visual Elements, The Creative Process, Beginning Drawing, Beginning Painting, Continuing Painting, B&W Photography, Color Photography, Figure Drawing, Computer Imaging and Sculpture. Among the recitals to be held that evening will be Guitar Ensemble, from 6:30 to 7:30; Group Voice, from 7:30 to 8; and Individual Voice, from 8 to 8:30. Also on Friday night, the University Theatre will host Musical Theatre from 6:30 to 7, Acting at 7 and Dance Ensembles, including Movement and Body, Modern Dance and Jazz Dance, beginning at 8.
On Saturday, May 4, the Jonsson Performance Hall will host the following concerts: String Ensemble, from 2 to 2:30 p.m.; Wind Ensemble, from 2:30 to 3 p.m.; and Piano Ensemble, from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
On Sunday, May 5, the festivities will culminate with Vivaldi’s Gloria and other works performed by the UTD Chamber Singers and the UTD Chorale in the University Theatre. Tickets to this special event are free, but must be picked up in advance or at the door. No reservations will be taken.
