RICHARDSON, Texas (Feb. 17, 2005) — Maestro Andrew Litton, music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway, will bring to The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) his principal violist from the Bergen Philharmonic, Latvian musician Ilze Klava, and two superb musicians from the DSO, violinist Arkady Fomin and cellist Peter Steffens, for a concert Saturday, March 26, entitled Litton, Latvia, & Brahms.

The concert will be held in the UTD Conference Center and begin at 8 pm.

Although chiefly known for his conducting skills, Litton will play the piano for this concert, which will include performances of Johan Halvorsen’s Passacaglia, a duet for violin and viola, Jazeps Medins’ Balade for Violin and Piano, Darius Mihaud’s Four Portraits for Viola and Piano, Edvard Grieg’s At Your Feet for Viola and Piano and Georges Enesco’s Concert Piece for Viola and Piano. After intermission, Litton, Klava, Fomin and Steffeens will play Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet, Op 25 in g minor.

Litton began studying piano when he was five years old and holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the Juilliard School in piano and conducting. Litton has said he believes that “the arts provide us with the ultimate form of self-expression and give us fulfillment, enrichment, beauty and peace, and represent, quite frankly, all that is best about mankind.”

The concert is being underwritten by the Dallas Riga Sister Cities Committee.
