Kelly Durbin, jazz pianist and faculty member at UT Dallas, will present a concert featuring several of Dallas’ finest jazz musicians on Friday, April 4, in the Jonsson Performance Hall at 8:00 p.m.

Durbin will perform with James Gilyard (bass), Simone Jackson-Rodgers (vocals), Karl Lampman (saxophone) and Lyles West (bass). “Kelly Durbin and Friends” is one of the most highly anticipated annual events of the Art & Performance Season.

The music selections will be drawn from many eras of jazz, ranging from New Orleans through post-bop and modern.  The concert will feature works by composers such as Horace Silver, Joe Henderson and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as original works by members of the ensemble.  The second half of the concert, which will feature Gilyard, will be devoted to the music of Billy Strayhorn.  The concert will be a tribute to late tenor saxophonist  Marchel Ivery and bassist Kerby Stewart.

A graduate of The University of North Texas, Durbin is a longtime member of the James Gilyard Ensemble and the Wayne Delano Quartet.  His professional credits include work with David “Fathead” Newman, James Clay, Chuck Rainey, Billy Hart, Louis Hayes, Ed Soph, Lynn Seaton, Hank Crawford, Sebastian Whittaker and Roseanne Vitro.
