Award-winning classical pianist Daredjan Kakouberi will give a concert at 8 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the Jonsson Performance Hall on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas. Kakouberi’s program will include Haydn’s Sonata in g minor, Schumann’s Carnival, Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Scriabin’s Two poems and Nocturne for left hand alone and Liszt’s Mephisto-Waltz.
Admission will be free to UTD students with a valid university identification card and $10 to all others.
Daredjan “Baya” Kakouberi was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and made her piano debut at the age of 11. After graduating from Tbilisi Special School of Music for the Talented and Gifted, she entered the Moscow Conservatory, where she continued her studies on the Master’s and Doctorate levels under the tutelage of famous pianist and professor Sergei Dorenski and Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medallist Vladimir Kraniev.
Kakouberi has given recitals and appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Moscow, Georgia, Armenia, Lativia, Italy and the United States. She has appeared as a host and soloist on Georgian Television and has recorded with the Moscow Philharmonic on Melodia Records and with the “Allegro Synfonia” in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In 1996, Kakouberi was among the “World’s Ten Most Distinguished Pianists” chosen by the Palm Beach Invitational Piano Competition, and in the summer of 2000 she was chosen as recipient of the “Most Outstanding and Distinguished Pianist” award in the IBLA International Competition in Italy. In addition to her work as a soloist, Kakouberi also will appear at The University of Texas at Dallas this season as a member of the Clavier Trio, UTD’s Artists-In-Residence for the 2001-2002 season, and in UTD’s Young Artist Series.
