Classical guitarist and Canadian Jérôme Ducharme, winner of the 23rd annual Guitar Foundation of America Guitar Competition, will perform at The University of Texas at Dallas at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 in the Jonsson Performance Hall. Ducharme also will teach a master class at the university on Feb. 15.
The concert will include Pavan Number 1 by Luis Milán, Sonata-Fantasia by Francisco Moreno-Torroba, Suite Opus41 by Jaques Hétu, Appalachian Summer by Matthew Dunne, Fantasia-Sonata, Opus22a by Juan Mañen and Tres Piezas Españolas by Joaquín Rodrigo.
Ducharme has studied under the guidance of André Morissette, Pierre Morin, Clément Canac Marquis, Jean Vallieres, Oscar Giglia and Stephan Schmidt. He was the featured performer on the Montreal Guitar Society’s inaugural and 2004 seasons and, in 2005, he performed with the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra on Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Don Pasquale.
Ducharme has received numerous prizes and recognition in international competitions. In 2000, he won first prize in the Festival-Concours de Lanaudière. He was awarded first prize in the Guitare-Lachine competition held in Montréal in 2003. He won third prize in a 2004 Guitar Foundation of America Guitar Competition and later that year he was awarded third prize and the audience prize in the Guitare-Antony Competition in France.
