Classical Guitarist Carles Pons To Perform at U. T. Dallas on Oct. 22

RICHARDSON, Texas (Oct. 1, 2004) — Carles Pons Altés, head of guitar at the Irún Music Conservatoire, will appear in concert at the Jonsson Performance Hall at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) on Friday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m.
In addition to having an active concert schedule in Europe and the Far East, Pons is a well-known recording artist and broadcaster. He started studying music when he was only five. Bulgarian composer Gregory Popov has said of Pons’ music that “the delicate nuances in the musical details and the sound production both surprise professional musicians and create a response of joy and pleasure.”

Pons has recorded for Channel 1 of the RTB (Bahrain Radio and Television), for ETB (Euskadi Television), for RTT1 (Turkey Radio and television) and for UCS-TV (cable TV from Brazil). In 1999, together with several Basque guitar players, he recorded a CD devoted to the music of J. de Azpiazu. He is editor of the guitar handbook, Elijo Mis Obras, published by Ed. Donostiarra in 1999.
Pons’ 2004 international tour includes Italy, Hungary, Monaco and Great Britain. After his concert at UTD, he will visit other cities in the U. S. and Mexico, eventually ending his tour in Japan.
