RICHARDSON, Texas (Aug. 20, 2004 ) — Thomas Riccio, The University of Texas at Dallas’ professor of performance studies, will kick off what he promises will be a “daring new season” at 8 p.m., Sept. 17, in the University Theater with Beta Test.2, a festival designed to introduce and develop experimental performance work and artists.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 pm on Sundays. The festival will run until Sunday, Sept. 26.
Now in its second season, Beta Test.2 features original and innovative digital art, performance art, video, audio animation and hybrid medium presentations. Riccio perceives Beta Test as an opportunity for students to explore the limits of their creativity through the use of a variety of media. Since there are more than 20 presentations, they will alternate each day.
The selection committee for the presentation includes Riccio, Dean Terry, video and digital artist, Greg Metz, visual and installation artist, and Venus Opal Reese, playwright and spoken word artist. All are faculty members within the School of Arts and Humanities. Beta Test.2 is a collaboration between UTD’s Performance and Visual Arts and the Institute for Interactive Arts and Engineering.
