RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 15, 2006) —Preeminent Spanish classical guitarist Angel Romero will perform in the Conference Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. 

Romero made his professional debut when he was only six years old.  Since then, he has performed with various orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the Newton Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra and the New World Symphony.

In 1986, Romero became the youngest person awarded Spain’s Grand Cross of Civil Merit.  Three years later, he performed the entire score for the Robert Redford film The Milagro Beanfield War.  In 1992, at the request of then Secretary General Boustros Boustros-Ghali, Romero performed with the National Orchestra of Spain in the United Nations General Assembly Hall in a concert telecast globally.  He was knighted and presented with Spain’s highest honor, the Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica, in 2000.

As a musician, Romero basks in the praise of music critics.  The Washington Post proclaims he performs with “technical elegance and lyrical grace.”  The Los Angeles Times calls Romero “a musician of rare quality” who has “excited unreserved admiration for his disciplined, incisive rhythm, his authority, surety and taste.”  According to The New York Times, he is “an artist of unfailing musicality. His playing is virtuosic but inevitably dignified.”
