RICHARDSON, Texas (Nov. 8, 2004) – The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Chamber Singers, the UTD Chorale and the Symphonic Brass Quintet will present A Child’s Christmas under the direction of Kathryn Evans, associate dean in the School of Arts & Humanities, on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the University Theatre.
The theme for this year’s Holiday Sing emphasizes the family-friendly nature of the annual event, which will include readings, Christmas Carols from around the world and a special visit by Santa Claus. The audience will be invited to sing along with many of the carols. Children’s songs such as Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will be sung in addition to such traditional carols as The First Noel, We Three Kings, Joy to the World and Silent Night. The concert also will feature a special rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. The readings, chosen especially for children, will include selections from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas and the ever-popular Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Moore.
The Holiday Sing began at UTD 28 years ago with a simple invitation to the university’s neighbors to visit the campus for a special event. Since then, the concert has become a favorite tradition for residents of the Dallas and Richardson areas. Due to the popularity of this free event, it is recommended that audience members arrive early. The Symphonic Brass Quintet will present pre-show holiday favorites.
